| I love American diners and was very excited to try the Starlite Diner in Tygervalley. Menu is extensive - takes a while to go through it properly.
Egg Benedict - R29
For the not so hungry. Half an english muffin, topped with a poached egg and your choice of ham or bacon. Smothered with cheese sauce. Served with breakfast potatoes
Verdict: I love Eggs Benedict. This was not quite the same, as it came with cheese sauce instead of hollandaise. Other than that, it was quite enjoyable. The breakfast chips were not what we expected - more like breakfast crisps. (Third row left picture)
Chicken Wings - R38
Savoury, plump chicken wings, tossed with your choice of our own buffalo or BBQ sauce. Served with blue cheese dressing and carrot sticks
Verdict: I wouldn't call them plump. They were rather small. Taste was ok but nothing special. (First row left picture)
Potato Boats - R35
Deep fried crispy potato skin boats, hand scooped and loaded with bacon, cheddar cheese and served with chive sour cream for dunking
Verdict: The potato's were extremely starchy and tasted terrible. We could not finish the four potato halves. Its a pity because I was really looking forward to them. (First row right picture)
Outrageous Hot Fudge fantasy - R27
A fudge brownie, dribbled with hot fudge sauce. Nestling against a scoop of vanilla ice cream, topped with a maraschino cherry.
Verdict: Chocolaty, fudgy, creamy, hot, delicious! (Second row right picture)
Deep Dish Apple Pie - R30
Mountains of fresh apples slowly cooked with just the right amount of spices and topped with pecan nut streusel topping. Served with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce.
Verdict: Tons of apple, caramel sauce and ice cream. Fabulous! (Second row left picture)
Double Thick Chocolate Malt Shake.
Just as the title hints at - deliciously double thick chocolate malt shake. Not the best shake we've ever had, but certainly worth the price. (Third row right picture)
Overall, the food was fair, service was fair, being slow at times. Highlight of our visit has to be the desserts. Most delicious! |
